Bridge from Cuyahoga

Bridge of Cuyahoga River

While I was at a concert during the Labor Day weekend, I snapped this photo of the bridge over the Cuyahoga.

It is a bridge that is no longer in use and is permanently in the up position. As a matter of fact, I took a picture of this bridge when I first started this blog.

The really odd thing about this photo is that it looks like a black and while picture, when it is really a color photo. Due to the time of day, a storm rolling in and the light behind it, the color of everything just seemed to get washed out.

Shadow of Carter Road Bridge on Cuyahoga

Shadow of Carter Road Bridge on CuyahogaLast year, I had part of a tree fall on my garage during a wicked wind storm that took out some other trees in the neighborhood. So this morning, I had to take photos of my repaired garage and send them to the insurance company.

While I was downloading the pictures, I realized I had forgotten that I had taken this photo from the Carter Road bridge when I was walking home last Friday. The impression of the bridge shadow was really strong on the river. I had never really seen it like that before. It kind of took me by surprise.

Luckily, I had my camera and was able to get this shot. I love how the Cuyahoga water actually looks blue in some spots because of the shadows.

Birds following Barge on the Cuyahoga

Birds following Barge on the Cuyahoga

As I was driving to work this morning, I noticed a massive amount of birds flying over the Cuyahoga River. I pulled the car over and grabbed my camera. The birds were following one of the barges that transports materials up and down the Cuyahoga.

You might need to click on the picture to see the detail.

I didn't think the picture did it justice because you can't see much because of the distance, so I did a 12 second TV video of it (see below).

Rowing Teams on the Cuyahoga River

While walking home, I was crossing the Cuyahoga and there were two rowing team racing down toward the bridge. They were far enough down the river that I was able to get out my camera.

For this photo, I was able to prepare a bit more and take a few snaps - unlike my photo of the lone rower that I took a few weeks ago.

It always seems very peaceful. However, the biggest shock is how blue the river looks.

Rower on Cuyahoga

Rower on Cuyahoga River

I have posted several photos of the Cuyahoga River and Cleveland Skyline from my daily walks to work.

When I have taken these photos there are many times I wish I had seen some of the rowing teams or rowers that traverse the river in the morning and evenings. I have never really been able to get a good shot since they tend to be far away.

This morning, I left a bit early for the office and managed to get this perfectly timed shot of a single rower in the morning sunlight.

Not a bad way to start the work week.

Reflection of Cleveland Skyline

Cleveland Skyline with Reflection in RiverAs I was on my regular journey to work this morning, I noticed the great reflection of the skyline in the Cuyahoga River. Generally, the sun is not shining hard enough to create a reflection this brilliant in the water.

I have taken other pictures of the Cleveland Skyline, but today felt shimmery and special.

I stopped and grabbed my camera out of my backpack. I was completely aware that the people in their cars stopped in traffic were looking at me.

Oh well, I am ok with suffering for my art.

American Republic on the River

American Republic on the River On my walk home from work yesterday, I had the fortunate timing of seeing a boat rolling under the tressle bridge. I started shooting from a lower part of the hill, but the pictures were not coming out very well.

I hotfooted it up the hill and managed to snap this picture as it was going through the bridge.
I thought it was fitting to post this picture of the "American Republic" on July 4th.

I can't imagine any commuters get to see something this fun when they are on US480.

Barge Unloading on the Cuyahoga

Barge Unloading on the CuyahogaThe part of the Cuyahoga that runs through the flats is often trafficked by barges that load and unload raw materials for companies. This morning, I managed to catch one in the act.

I also realized that I haven't posted a photo of a Cleveland bridge since early May.

Cleveland Skyline from Carter Road Bridge

As I have mentioned in previous blogs, I have been walking to work. Yesterday, I stopped on my way home and took a picture from the Carter Road Bridge that I cross on my way into Tremont.

The bridge has a nice view of the river and skyline. You can see Progressive Field (previously know as the Jake). Most skyline photos tend to either just show the city or are taken from the perspective of the lake. Cleveland is very fortunate to be on Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River.

As you will note, the sky is blue and the river is NOT burning.
