Terminal Tower through a Skylight

Terminal town through a Skylight

It has been awhile since I went to Tower City for lunch. The food court makes it easy to select from several types of food. I have walked through there more times in the 2.25 years I have worked downtown.

In all of that time, I never realized that you could see the Terminal Tower through the skylight. I did realize there was a skylight. It makes a cold winter day not feel as brutal when there is a little bit of sun.

I thought it was a pretty incredible view.

Ironically, I posted a photo of a reflection of the Terminal Tower at about the same time last year.

Cleveland Skyline and Tower City Reflection

Cleveland Skyline and Tower City ReflectionI have been shooting a fair amount of reflection photos lately. I guess that is the advantage of living in a city where there is both equal parts rain and sunshine. On my walk in this morning, I was thinking that I had left my camera at home and really didn't know what I would take as a photo.

Due to the heavy storms yesterday, there was a mini lake on Scranton Road. It was large enough that I could get a reflection of the skyline - specifically Key Tower and Tower City.

Unfortunately, I had to take this picture with my cell phone, so the sky is a bit blown out and the detail isn't the greatest. You get the idea though.

Christmas Tree at Tower City

Christmas Tree at Tower City

I finally got a chance to break out of the office and head to Tower City. It is the first time I have been up there since the holiday season began.

The tree looks great and all the kids hanging around really got me into a holiday mood. It is only a few days until Christmas and I have 3 gifts left on the list. Not bad for being on the road for the majority of December.

A Reflection of Terminal Tower

Terminal Tower in a reflection of another building

On my daily commute into the office this morning, I got off the bus and cross the street on the eastern side of Public Square. When I looked up, there was an amazing reflection of the Terminal Tower in this building. I have seen reflections in other building before, but never one that looks to vibrant and the sky so blue.

You have to really enjoy these summer days when the sun is shining and it is cool in the morning and warm during the day. No better time of the year.

Terminal Tower Reflection

Terminal Tower Reflection

On the way back from a meeting yesterday, I noticed this very prominent reflection of the Terminal Tower in the building across the street.

Over the years, I have done a few studies of reflective photography and even have a few photos of Skyline reflections posted on the blog.

Since the day was pretty overcast, the background isn't that great, but the building still stands out a lot.

West Side Market

Apparently, I was tired this weekend, because I posted the photo of the West Side Market to my beer blog on Monday morning. So I thought I would publish it here today. Oops.

One of the best features of the area where I live is the West Side Market. It is an old market building that houses Cleveland's oldest public market. In 1902 the city purchased a site for a new market that stands today.

The market house cost $680,000 to build. It was designed by the firm of HUBBELL & BENES was dedicated in 1912--a massive yellow-brick building with an interior concourse providing room for 100 stalls, an outdoor arcade with 85 stands, and a large clock tower.

The photography was taken on Saturday during the busiest time of the week for the market.

Tower at the Airport

I have been spending a lot of time at the airport lately. I just had gotten back from my trip to Ireland and headed to Chicago for the weekend. I was not in downtown, but on the far edge of the city for a christening. I didn't even take my camera out of the case the entire weekend.

However, I snapped this photo while I was waiting for my ride home from the airport. It struck me as a strange design element for the building, but the odd green lighting made it stand out even more. I do like the geometry of the photograph, even if the subject matter is not really that interesting. It was enough to catch my eye while I was waiting for my ride.

Cleveland Pink Skyline

Photo of Cleveland Skyline with Pink Sky

During the bitter cold week, I was walking from the car to the office. On the way into the building, I noticed how incredible the sky looked behind Tower City. I had to stop and snap a picture of it.

Discovering Lincoln on the Mall

Statue of Abe Lincoln on the Mall in Cleveland

While I was waiting for the bus yesterday, I had a ton of extra time, and I decided to take a spin around the part of the Mall in Cleveland near Key Tower. During my little stroll, I discovered a statue of Abe Lincoln. The bottom of the statue has the Gettysburg address on it.

I never realized the statue was there, but even more so I got a chance to re-read the Gettysburg Address. As we are coming up on Memorial Day, it has reminded me of this country's incredible history and time when we had taken up arms against each other.

I think it is the thing that is incredible about living in an older city - there is history around every corner.

Cleveland View of Lake Erie

Cleveland View of Lake Erie

While I was at a meeting with a client located in the Terminal Tower, I snapped this photo out the window of their Lake Erie view.

They offices are on the 29th floor, so it is a pretty amazing view of the city and the lake.

St. Canice Cathedral in Killkenny

St. Canice Cathedral in Killkenny

There are great churches and cathedrals all over Ireland. St. Canice in Killkenny is especially interesting because you can climb the external spiral tower. It provides an incredible view of the city and lets you imagine that you are on the lookout for invading tribes.
